About

Kumai is an archaeological and ethnographic complex from the ancient Turkic period in the Ereymentau District of Akmola Region, within Buiratau National Park. Its monuments are associated with the valleys of the Kumai and Kedei rivers and include stone enclosures, burial mounds, balbals, and anthropomorphic statues. The best-known site is Kos Batyr, with two granite figures of warriors facing east; the complex is important for studying the rituals, military symbolism, and beliefs of the ancient Turks.
