Mangilik El

The Mangilik El Triumphal Arch is a monument on the ceremonial axis of Astana’s left bank. It was opened in 2011 for the 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s independence; its height of 20 meters refers to that date. The arch is faced with granite and marble and decorated with national ornament, bas-reliefs, and sculptures at its base. According to city tourist guides, there are small exhibition areas and an observation deck inside, but the main impression comes from the arch’s own silhouette on the broad avenue.
