Kobeituz is a saline, endorheic lake in the Ereymentau District of Akmola Region, in the steppe zone east of Astana. In summer, the water may take on a pink hue due to the microalga Dunaliella salina and high mineralization, which is why the lake is known as “pink.” The shores and salt layer are vulnerable to pressure: environmental restrictions are in force here, including a ban on driving cars up to the shoreline, swimming, and collecting salt or mud.
